  • Christmas break!

So I'm done with student teaching!!  I am officially on Christmas break, which has been nice.  I do miss my students, but I'll be seeing some of them again soon and the rest I know I'll visit again.  In the meantime, I'm trying to compile all this stuff to make a portfolio I can hand to interviewers this spring.  Anybody know of any jobs opening up? :)

I have started practicing piano again...and it's not as bad as I thought.  I never thought I'd be able to learn this Bartok piece, but I'm getting it (so what if it's like 10 times slower than it's supposed to be?).  And I'm reading for fun again!  I read 2 books by Torey Hayden in the past 5 days or so...they're about special ed kids, mainly ones with emotional disorders of some sort.  Anyway, they're really interesting to me and I might get another one to read before I go back.

I can't believe I go back to school in 2 weeks!

  • Finally!

I finally finished my portfolio for student teaching!!  I've been working on it since...ohh...October?  Anyway, it feels good to have it done.  I decided not to proof read for the 10th time because I'm just tired of it.  I'm sure I'll pass...

Only 2 weeks left of student teaching!! I loved this semester, but I'm also ready to just go back to school and finish it out.  Anyone know of a job opening for music teachers next year?

  • Goodbye children, Hello teenagers

So I'm done with my elementary student teaching experience - it went by soo fast!  Now I'm off to Ben Davis High School.  I'll miss my students a lot, but I know I need to move on in order to learn more.

    Other news...

*My uncle's getting married in a week!  I'm playing for the wedding, thankfully the music is pretty easy!

*Christy (my friend who has been living at my house to do student teaching) is moving to Honduras today for her second experience :(

*My roomie Sara is coming to visit today and tomorrow!!

*I'm going to see the Vienna Boys Choir sing tonight!

  • Student Teaching

I suppose an update is in order seeing that I am over halfway done with my first placement.  To sum it up, I love it! :) I'm sure this is not a surprise to anyone.  I have successfully taken over full-time teaching K-5 for one week, made more than a few students cry (not really my fault), gotten a cold from my students, and started losing my voice.  One of the exciting things that happened today was how eager my 5th graders were to come to class!  I started a computer project with them and they were asking their classroom teacher to come early to my class!  They don't show their excitement to me as much, so it was fun hearing that story.  I also have a kindergartner who comes up to me EVERY class (so at least twice a week) and says "I still have my music card!" I give out Good News cards to 2 students who do a good job in class.  Most of the kids are great at the school - there's always exceptions everywhere you go though.

It's hard to summarize 6 weeks of student teaching...except to say it's going well and I'm looking forward to getting a real job next year.
